Second shift fire crews responded to a home in The Falls subdivision on Sandfarm Trail shortly before 1:40 p.m.
When crews arrived to the home, firefighters found the home heavily involved with fire and several nearby homes being threatened.
That prompted a 2nd alarm for the call sending more resources.
While firefighters worked to control the fire, portions of the home began to collapse and a mayday was issued.
Two firefighters working to protect an adjacent home from the fire were hit by falling debris, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department said.
Both firefighters appear to be okay but are being checked out an area hospital as a precaution.
The fire was extinguished but it left the home as a total loss.
Six nearby properties also suffered damages due to the high heat.
Two adults and two children were left displaced due to the fire, and Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office will be looking into what caused the fire.
