The prescribed burns will take place in the Old Bluff Road area between April 16 and April 30, 2026, if weather permits.

Richland County says prescribed burning is a proven land management tool used to reduce the risk of larger, uncontrolled wildfires.

During a prescribed burn, trained forest managers carefully ignite targeted areas and maintain low-intensity fires under closely monitored conditions.

Residents may notice smoke drifting beyond conservation property boundaries during burn operations.

All prescribed burns will be conducted under permits issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) and will follow strict safety and weather guidelines.

No action is required from Richland County residents in response to these prescribed burns, according to the county.
