Gaston Police: Rodeo organizer facing citation following stampede

GASTON, S.C. (WOLO)– Gaston Police say the man who organized a rodeo where a stampede injured several people is now facing a citation.

Efrain Mercado was issued a citation for reckless discharge of fireworks.

According to an incident report, on Saturday night, fireworks were set off at the Rancho El Eden on South Main Street which caused the horses to stampede through the crowd, and injured several victims.

Police say several others were charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
