Deputies arrest man for Bush River Road homicide; victim identified

RICHLAND CO., S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County authorities have arrested a man for a homicide Thursday and have identified the victim.

Kevin Jenkins, 55, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the victim as Anthony C. Thompson, 24, of Columbia.

According to investigators, at 9:15 a.m., Jenkins and Thompson were in a verbal altercation on the 1100 block of Bush River Road, when Jenkins shot Thompson.

Thompson was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

At around 2 p.m., deputies say they located Jenkins at a homeless camp near the incident location and took him into custody.

He’s being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

This incident remains under investigation.
