Will screwworms affect beef prices

(CNN)– Shoppers are wondering what the return of the screwworm could mean for their grocery bills.

The USDA has confirmed at least three cases of the flesh-eating parasite in Texas cattle this week.

Experts say that’s unlikely to cause beef prices to rise right away.

But if the screwworm cases turn into a full-blown outbreak shoppers could face steady price hikes.

Beef prices are already at record highs right now because of smaller herds.
