Motions filed in Murdaugh trial ahead of Monday hearing
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Attorneys for Alex Murdaugh filed several motions this week including one to move the case out of Colleton County.
In the filings the attorneys write that due to the “especially intense” coverage the case has received in the fourteenth judicial circuit which comprises of Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties, their client cannot receive “the fair and impartial trial guaranteed to him.”
The filings come ahead of a hearing scheduled for Monday, June 29, in a Lexington County courtroom.
The SC Supreme Court overturned Murdaugh’s double-murder convictions because of what they called “egregious” jury interference of Former County Court Clerk Becky Hill.
Murdaugh was convicted for killing his wife Maggie and son Paul Murdaugh in 2021.
