Weekend incident on Lake Wateree claim lives of 2 Charlotte women
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Kershaw County Coroner’s Office has identified two people who loss their lives over the weekend on Lake Wateree, says the coroner’s office.
911 records indicate that at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, first responders and EMS were dispatched to a Liberty Hill address on Lake Wateree for two possible drownings.
When emergency personnel arrived to the scene, both individuals had already been pulled out of the water and efforts were underway to resuscitate them, says the KCCO.
Elena Walrod, 27, of Charlotte, was pronounced dead at the scene.
And Hannah Riley, 34, also of Charlotte, was taken by an ambulance to a Camden hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to the ER.
The incident is under investigation by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office and the cause of death for both victims is pending final autopsy results.
