Apple announces $30 billion deal
(CNN)– Apple has announced a $30 billion deal to design chips made in the U.S. by Broadcom.
That company makes wireless connectivity chips for the gadgets we use to connect to wi-fi, cell networks, and bluetooth.
The Apple-Broadcom agreement will lead to the production of 15-million chips in the U.S.
The deal also allows Broadcom to invest one-and-a-half billion dollars to expand and modernize its manufacturing facilities in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The announcement is the latest in Apple’s continued effort to diversify the source of its components and to help support domestic chip production.
