Itemized medical bills coming in January 2027

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Next year (2027), medical bills in South Carolina may look a little longer.

Starting in January, hospitals and healthcare facilities will be required to give patients itemized bills, in writing and electronically.

This is part of a push by York County State Representative Heath Sessions to bring patients more transparency.

Bills will have to clearly state what the patient owes, and the amount being sought by insurance.
