$1 billion uncovered in trade fraud
(CNN)– The Trump Administration says its Trade Fraud Task Force has uncovered more than $1 billion in recoveries and alleged losses.
The task force led by the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security says the total includes criminal and civil penalties, settlements, restitution, and pending cases.
The administration created the task force as part of a broader effort to enforce trade rules and collect tariffs.
Officials say the case that pushed the total past the billion-dollar mark involves a jewelry importer accused of falsely declaring the country of origin to avoid paying higher tariffs.
