Family of slain Chester Co. teen seeking answers
Chester, S.C. (WOLO)–The family of a 13 year old boy who died in foster care is calling for answers.
Friday afternoon the family of Daryl Lowry met with the media in Chester.
Investigators with SLED say Lowry died after he was held under water and stabbed at a boat dock in McCormick County following an altercation.
An attorney for the boy’s family says they are looking into why the Chester County teen was placed with a family in McCormick County and if any red flags were ignored prior to his placement.
“When the state takes custody of a child, their first priority is to make sure that child is safe and they have a duty to keep that child safe. Keeping them alive goes without saying.” said Attorney Tyler Bailey.
SLED investigators charged 17 year old Austin Moore with Murder in Lowry’s death.
A 16 year old was also taken in to custody by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
