CPD: Carjacking lead to Downtown accident
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police say just after 8am Monday, officers responded to the 1300 block of Sumter St. in reference to a reported carjacking and kidnapping.
At the same time, police say they were dispatched to the 1200 block of Gervais St. for a traffic collision involving injuries.
Police say the two incidents are directly related.
According to investigators, police are not searching for any suspects in connection with the incidents.
Police say one person is in custody and will be charged after they are released from the hospital.
“This was a serious incident that demanded an immediate and coordinated response from our officers and our public safety partners,” said Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook. “While this remains an active investigation, we want our community to know that this appears to be an isolated incident. There is no ongoing threat to the public, and our officers remain committed to protecting everyone who lives, works, and visits downtown Columbia. We appreciate the community’s patience as investigators continue their work.”
