RCSD: Midlands mosque leader arrested again, facing additional charge
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sheriff Leon Lott says a Midlands mosque leader was arrested on an additional criminal sexual conduct charge.

Louai Elkhatib was arrested on July 20, 2026, and charged with four counts of assault and battery 1st degree and one count of criminal sexual conduct 1st degree.
After announcing Elkhatib’s arrest, Richland County Sheriff’s Department encouraged any additional victims to come forward.
On July 25, investigators were contacted by an additional victim regarding an incident that happened between 2000 and 2001.
Six victims have now been identified, says RCSD.
Elkhatib who was out on a surety bond was taken into custody again on Tuesday, Aug 11, and then taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
He is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor 3rd degree, and is awaiting a bond hearing.
RCSD is continuing to encourage any possible victims to come forward and speak with an investigator.
