Upstate student shot, killed at bus stop
Cherokee Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with the Cherokee Co. Coroner’s Office say a Gaffney HS student was shot and killed while boarding a school bus Wednesday morning.
Coroner Dennis Fowler identified the victim as Jomiltron Fair, 17, of Gaffney.
“Fair walked from his apartment just across the street from the bus stop at 6:49 a.m. and was about to enter the bus when a male subject approached him. After a short
altercation, Fair was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Video surveillance cameras on the bus shows the shooter flee to a waiting vehicle driven by another person
immediately after the incident,” Fowler said.
“This is an absolute tragedy. It’s a sad world when our children cannot be safe while going to school. My heart is heavy for this student’s family and those 15 students who
were on board the bus and witnessed this heinous crime,’ Fowler said.
Officials with the Gaffney Police Department say they are working closely with the Cherokee County School District as they continue to manage this incident and ensure the safety of the community, students, and school personnel.
