Man sentenced to 15 years in relation to state trooper shooting
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A Georgia man was sentenced in federal court Thursday, August 13, following the shooting of a state trooper in Bamberg back in 2023.
A judge sentenced Derrick Gathers to 15 years in prison on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the maximum sentence allowed.
According to investigators, in April 2023, Gathers shot Lance Corporal B.A. Frazier in the face after being pulled over on U.S.-78 for speeding.
Trooper Frazier’s injuries were non-life threatening.
Gathers also currently serving 35 years on state charges related to the shooting.
