Gov. McMaster discusses vetoes of $15 billion state budget

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Monday afternoon, Governor Henry McMaster discussed his vetoes to the recently passed $15 billion state budget.

On Aug. 17, the governor announced 14 line-item vetoes.

Last week, the General Assembly passed the 2026 – 2027 budget which includes around $90 million to raise the starting salary for teachers to over $50,000 and $29 million for an in-state college tuition freeze.

Other funds go towards lowering the state income tax, providing property tax relief, a 2% pay raise for state employees, and improving the roads.

South Carolina has been without a state budget since the beginning of July.
