Alex Murdaugh’s attorney’s request trial move to Richland County

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Alex Murdaugh’s legal team is shifting its sights on the state capital as the venue for the double-murder retrial.

Murdaugh’s attorneys filed a request to move the April 2027 retrial to the Richland County Courthouse in Columbia.

The move follows the judge’s ruling that the trial needs to be moved out of Colleton County.

Murdaugh was convicted in 2023 of the murders of his wife and son but in May the state Supreme Court threw the convictions out due to alleged jury tampering by Former Clerk of Court Becky Hill.
