Parent arrested after child accused of bringing gun on school bus
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD Sheriff Leon Lott says a parent has been arrested after their child brought a gun on a school bus.
On Tuesday morning, August 18, around 7:30 a.m., JP Thomas Elementary School’s school resource officer was called after a 6-year-old was found to have a loaded firearm on a school bus.
The firearm was discovered to be an AR Pistol with .556 rounds, and was safely taken away from the child, says Richland Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
The child’s mother Destar Hall was called to the school.
It was discovered that the firearm was not properly secured by Hall at their home which deputies say led to her 6-year-old gaining possession of the gun.
Hall was placed under arrested and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
She was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
