AG disputes Murdaugh defense polygraph claims

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– State prosecutors say the defense attorneys for Alex Murdaugh lied about polygraph results in last week’s hearing.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, during last week’s hearing in Lexington, defense attorneys claimed Murdaugh passed a SLED lie-detector test.

In a motion filed Wednesday, August 19, Attorney General Alan Wilson says that claim is false and that Murdaugh was never submitted to a SLED polygraph test before, during, or after his previous trial.

In a motion filed Thursday, August 20, Defense Attorney Dick Harpootlian acknowledged his false statement and apologized for any confusion it may have caused.

Murdaugh’s re-trial on double murder is scheduled for April of 2027.
