Stripe buys Ai startup Openrouter

(CNN)– Payments software company Stripe is buying Ai start-up Openrouter for a reported nearly $8 billion.

The deal was announced yesterday.

Stripe’s technology allows companies to direct payments to other businesses.

And Openrouter’s tech lets companies direct spending of “tokens” between different artificial intelligence model providers.

The two companies have not disclosed the deal’s value but a person with knowledge of the deal told the New York Times Stripe is paying $7.5 billion.

Stripe has remained private since it’s founding in 2010, and millions of companies use its payments software.
