FDA upgrades egg recall classification

(CNN)– The FDA is escalating a nationwide egg recall to its highest-risk classification over salmonella concerns.

The recall involves around one-and-a-half million dozen white and brown cage-free eggs.

The new ‘class one’ designation means there’s a reasonable possibility that exposure could cause serious health consequences or death.

At least 98 people in 17 states have been sickened with 26 hospitalized.

The eggs distributed by Midwest Poultry Services were shipped to retailers and foodservice locations in six states.

Those include Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Mississippi.
