Orangeburg man charged with murder after fatal weekend shooting

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says a man has been charged with murder after a fatal weekend shooting.

Sheriff Ravenell says 38-year-old James Canaday has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators were dispatched on Saturday, August 22, to a Kyzer Brown Road location in Springfield where they found a 50-year-old male deceased of a gunshot wound.

Canaday was taken into custody soon after and charged.

“None of this makes one bit of sense – at all,” the sheriff says. “There is absolutely no reason under the sun that could justify this individual’s actions.”

The Neeses man is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
