New statewide network to preserve the legacy of SC Black schools

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A new statewide network is ensuring some South Carolina schools are not lost to history.

Thursday morning, August 27, the Central Carolina Community Foundation and USC’s Center for Civil Rights History and Research announced the launch of the South Carolina Historic Black Schools Preservation Network.

Organizers say the group will celebrate and preserve the legacy of the schools where young minds were educated prior to desegregation.

Public schools began desegregation in South Carolina in 1963 but did not integrate completely until 1970.
