Dollar General’s $1 items thriving

(CNN)– Dollar General learned it didn’t have to look further than its name to boost sales.

The discount chain saw a 16% growth in what it calls its “Value Valley” offerings.

Those are items you can buy for a $1.

Compare that to the only three-and-a-half percent boost the retailer saw in overall sales.

Everyone seems to like the bargains.

Dollar General noted even shoppers who earn more than $100,000 per year are buying them.

The dollar items are proving so popular the chain plans to offer 40% more of them.
