CA bill restricts teen social media

(CNN)– California teens could soon face new restrictions on their social media apps.

State legislators passed a bill late Monday, that would ban social media companies from providing users under 16 with “addictive” features.

The measure targets auto-playing videos and algorithmically curated feeds.

The bill had widespread support in the Democrat-heavy state legislature and now heads to Governor Gavin Newsom.

It comes a week after Meta’s $18 billion settlement with more than two dozen states over claims its platforms harmed youth mental health.
