Trump Administration imposing new tariffs on drones

(CNN)– The Trump Administration is imposing new tariffs of up to 100% on drones.

The highest rate applies to drones weighing more than 55 pounds or using thermal imaging.

Smaller drones will face a 25% tariff.

The administration says reliance on foreign drones and components poses a national security risk.

Chinese company DJI makes more than 70% of the world’s commercial drones.

But critics say U.S. manufacturers cannot yet fill the gap.

Public safety officials warn the higher costs could put thermal drones out of reach for some communities.
