Airlines cut cheap flights amid jet fuel spike

(CNN)– Budget airfares could become even harder to find soon.

United Airlines, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines say they expect to cut more flights due to high jet fuel prices.

Experts say that likely will hit cheaper, less-profitable tickets that bargain hunters seek.

The Consumer Price Index shows about a 25% year-over-year jump in airfares for June through August.

That’s in addition to the higher fees carriers imposed when the Iran war first caused oil prices to spike.

That initial surge is part of why Spirit Airlines folded taking its budget options with it.
