Columbia, SC (WOLO) — Child Passenger Safety Week is just a few days away, and state officials want to make sure South Carolina parents take advantage of car seat check events happening Sept. 20-26, 2026.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH), car crashes severely injure or kill thousands of children across the nation every year. Data from the 2025 National Digital Car Seat Check Form shows more than 60% of technician-inspected car seats in South Carolina were improperly installed and used.
“Proper car seats and boosters make all the difference in a crash,” said Kevin Poore, Director of Safe Kids South Carolina. “Child Passenger Safety Week is a reminder for families to ensure their children are buckled correctly every time they are in the car.
The car seat checks taking place across the state are free, and the inspections will be conducted by certified Child Passenger Safety technicians.
