FTC investigates Ai companies

(CNN)– The Federal Trade Commission is investigating Open Ai, Anthropic and other Ai companies over potential harm to consumers.

The New York Times reports the FTC is examining whether the companies violated federal laws barring unfair or deceptive business practices.

The inquiry could include how companies handle consumer data, market their products’ capabilities, and control Ai systems that act unexpectedly.

The agency plans to demand information from the companies and seek testimony from top executives.

Open Ai and Anthropic did not immediately comment.
