School-choice tax credit expanded

(CNN)– The federal government’s school choice tax credit is getting bigger than most people thought it would.

New rules governing it work like this.

Taxpayers can donate $1700 to scholarship groups.

They’ll get that money back in the form of tax credits.

It’s a way to redirect federal money to funding for both public and private schools.

But here’s the surprise, the donation is per taxpayer even married couples filing jointly.

So a couple could get $3400 in tax credits.
