4-year-old identified in homicide by child abuse case in Richland Co.
RICHLAND CO., S.C. (WOLO) – The Richland County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the child who deputies say was killed by his mother and godmother.
Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the victim as Kameron Howell, 4, of Columbia.
According to Richland County deputies, Howell died after being transported to MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast on Friday, October 2.
Medical staff told investigators Howell suffered several lacerations, multiple head injuries and burn marks.
Deputies have charged Howell’s mother Helen Benbow & godmother Zokeiyah McCray with homicide by child abuse.
Deputies say they were both legal guardians and caretakers of Howell.
They’re both being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
