Man charged following domestic dispute that led to woman being shot

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police say a disagreement between a couple resulted in a non-fatal shooting Thursday inside a Cheyne Street home.

Robert Lee Young Jr., 35, was placed in custody and booked at the county detention center.

Young was charged with attempted murder and possession of weapon during a violent crime.

Officers say his companion, 34, of Sumter, was shot during the dispute.

She was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and has since been released.

Multiple juveniles, who were inside the home at the time of the incident, were unharmed, according to police.

The investigation by Sumter Police Department remains ongoing.
