U.S. food safety confidence drops

(CNN)– Americans are losing confidence in the safety of their food.

A new gallup poll finds just 65% believe food sold at most grocery stores is safe to eat.

That’s the lowest level ever recorded, down from 81% in 2019.

Confidence in the federal government’s ability to keep food safe has also hit a record low of 47%.

Meanwhile, nearly three-quarters of Americans say they’ve avoided certain foods because of recalls or safety warnings.

And 45% have thrown out or returned food over safety concerns in the past year.
