Former Clemson WR Wofford killed in crash
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Former Clemson wide receiver Brian Wofford was killed when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a car driven by Jewell Cote turned in front of Wofford’s motorcycle in Spartanburg County on Friday. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne said the incident was still under investigation. Rhyne said Cote was not hurt in the crash.
Rhyne said Wofford was wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wofford played in 47 games for the Tigers from 1996 through 1999. He caught 138 passes for 1,857 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wofford ‘s best year came in his senior season of 1999 when he caught 60 passes for 793 yards.
Wofford was the parks superintendent for the city of Spartanburg.
