Knife-wielding SC man shot to death by deputy

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Greenville County deputy has shot and killed a man who refused to put down a knife he was using to hold a woman hostage.

Investigators said the incident Monday afternoon began as a chase after authorities got a call that a man was holding a woman at knifepoint in a car.

Deputies say the man pulled over, but kept holding the woman hostage with the knife.

Investigators say the deputy shot the man in the chest when he made a threatening move toward the woman with the knife.

The shooting is being investigated, and the name of the deputy and the man shot to death have not been released.
