Rough surf, rain likely at SC coast Sunday
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Holiday weekend plans for the South Carolina beaches could turn out to be largely a bust.
The State of Columbia reports (http://bit.ly/KDFcHh ) the story system called Beryl likely will bring larger-than-normal waves and wind on Sunday. The Hilton Head area could get 25 mph gusts, with Sunday likely the worst day for wind and rough surf.
Rip currents caused by the storm forced the closing of beaches along the South Carolina coast from Charleston northward.
Rainfall isn’t expected to be heavy.
Beaufort County Emergency Management deputy director David Zeoli (ZEE-oli) said officials been told to stay near a phone and watch the storm’s progress.
