Gamecocks to Host Clemson, Coastal Carolina in Regional

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s college baseball powerhouses are coming to Columbia for next weekend’s NCAA tournament regional. Clemson and Coastal Carolina are heading to the regional hosted by No. 8 national seed South Carolina. Manhattan rounds out the four-team, double-elimination field. The No. 2 seed Tigers will open the regional against the No. 3 seed Chanticleers at noon Friday, with the Gamecocks start their attempt at a third straight national title against the Jaspers at 4 p.m. The last time Clemson and South Carolina met in the postseason before the College World Series was a 1980 regional won by the Tigers. The Gamecocks won two of three from Clemson this season. Coastal Carolina hasn’t played South Carolina since losing to the Gamecocks in a super-regional in 2010, while the Chanticleers beat the Tigers in their only meeting this season.
