Hurricane Season Starts June 1, 2012

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — Hurricane Season doesn’t officially begin until Friday, but you can’t tell that to Mother Nature who has already hit the South East with two tropical storms. We spoke with USC Earth and Science Professor, Dr. Venkat Lakshmi who predicts this season will not only be busier but the next storms we do see, could pack some pretty strong punches. Lakshmi says there is a good chance we good be in for a long hurricane season that could hit us with storms anywhere from a category three to five, causing flooding, downed trees, power lines and choppy surf. Lakshmi says people should heed warnings when they are issued, but says it’s also important not to panic. Chris and Debbie are the two next names on the list of storms. How much of an impact will they have on us, only time and hurricane season will tell.
