Man Lying on Tracks Killed by Train near Winnsboro

WINNSBORO, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a 32-year-old man has been struck and killed by a train while lying on the tracks near Winnsboro. Investigators said the engineer saw Antonio Pindeda on his back on the tracks as he rounded a curve around 8 p.m. Monday. The engineer told Fairfield County deputies he sounded the horn, but the man didn’t move. The train couldn’t stop in time. Investigators say Pindeda was a frequent customer of the nearby Boone’s Barn convenience store. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
