FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WOLO) — The Fort Jackson 17th Military Police Detachment hosted the 2012 Top Cop Competition on base. Twenty teams with competitors from several Army installations, S. C. National Guard, local law enforcement agencies and Shaw Air Force Base, competed over two days for top honors. But they say a safer community is the real winner. Events included responding to a domestic incident and a medical emergency, negotiating an obstacle course, shooting weapons and reacting to an active shooter scenario. The winners were announced at the conclusion of the events Tuesday evening. While the event fosters relationships between difference agencies through friendly competition, the citizens the officers serve and protect will benefit from additional training, organizers said.
