Fans invited to wish Gamecocks well at CWS

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Fans will have the chance to wish South Carolina’s baseball team good luck at the College World Series on Wednesday.

The team will have a send-off at the Carolina Stadium parking lot at 10:30 a.m. before the club departs for Omaha, Nebraska. The Gamecocks are trying to win their third consecutive national title. They clinched their third straight trip to the series on Monday with a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma.

The Gamecocks (45-17) have won a record 21 straight NCAA tournament games. They open national championship play Saturday night against top-seeded Florida, their Southeastern Conference rival and their opponent in last year’s championship series at TD Ameritrade Park.

Coach Ray Tanner is expected to address the fans before leaving.
