UPDATE: Sumter deputies say missing man with dementia found safe

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office says they have found a missing man who suffers from dementia.

SUMTER CO., SC (WOLO) — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says they have found a 67 year-old missing man who suffers from dementia.

Willie Humes was located in a wooded area less than a mile south near a field at 11 a.m.

Authorities says he was found with assistance from the SLED Aviation helicopter and is being treated by EMS, but should be ok.

In a release, Sheriff Dennis said, “We are so grateful the Mr. Humes was found safe. Our appreciation goes out to all the family and neighbors in the area that assisted as well as SLEDs assistance with the helicopter.”

Officials say 67 year old Willie Lee Humes walked away from his home, and was reported missing around 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Following his disappearance, deputies searched for Humes using K-9 officers and drones to search the area in hopes of locating Humes. Authorities say he was last seen wearing a black shirt with gray sleeves, gray pants, and no shoes.
