SC attorney Mary Lewis confirmed as federal judge
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The U.S. Senate has confirmed Columbia attorney Mary Geiger Lewis as a federal judge. Senators voted 64-27 on Monday in favor of Lewis’ nomination as a U.S. district judge for South Carolina.
South Carolina’s Republican senators were split on the nomination vote.
Lindsey Graham voted for Lewis’ confirmation, while Jim DeMint voted against. Lewis has practiced law for more than 25 years was a partner with Lewis & Griffin when she was nominated for the judgeship last year.
Lewis is a graduate of Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
