Greenville man charged with woman’s beating death

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Greenville County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man and charged him in the beating death of a woman last month.

Thirty-three-year-old James Cornelius Gray of Greenville is charged with murder in the death of 55-year-old Ellen Renea Willingham.

Willingham was found in a parking area near Interstate 85 on May 26.

Police think Gray hit the woman in the head and she died that night from her injuries.

Gray had been held in the Greenville County jail since May 29 on charges of strong-arm robbery and violation of probation. It was not clear if he has an attorney for the murder charge.
