Police: Lowcountry killing meant as murder-suicide
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Beaufort County deputies say an 84-year-old woman found dead in a Hilton Head Island assisted living home was likely killed by her husband, who survived a suicide attempt.
Authorities say a caregiver on a regular visit found Page Cross’ body at the home around 8 p.m. Sunday after finding a note on the door turning away visitors and a second note inside asking her to call 911. The victim had been cut several times.
Investigators say Cross’ 90-year-old husband, John, was found in another bedroom of the home, suffering from cuts and a gunshot wound. He remained in a hospital Monday.
Deputies say they are waiting on autopsy results and reviewing other evidence
