3 charged in massive Cayce recycling plant fire

CAYCE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have arrested the manager of a Cayce recycling plant and two of its co-owners after a massive fire last week.

Investigators say acting manager Israel Rizo and co-owners Charles Goode and Doug Jen failed to follow city ordinances and guidelines for burning when the fire broke out June 29 at Global Recycling. They are charged with unlawful burning.

Dozens of firefighters from around the state came to help put out the blaze which created heavy black smoke as it burned plastics stored inside for two days.

Authorities say they could not release any details about the laws the men are accused of breaking because it might jeopardize their investigation.

Phone listings for the men could not be found and no one answered at a number for the recycling plant.
