Police: Man found dead in SC road was rape suspect

RICHBURG, S.C. (AP) — Police say a Lancaster man found shot to death on a Chester County road was suspected of raping a teenage girl.

Authorities say they found the body of 39-year-old Michael Terry while responding to a sexual assault call Sunday night in Richburg.

A girl told authorities Terry was visiting her home and took her for a walk in nearby woods, where he raped her. A woman in the house said Terry left the house on foot.

Authorities found Terry’s body a half a mile away. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made. Sheriff Richard Smith says authorities are still investigating the shooting.
