Plane lands on beach near Ocean Course on SC coast

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — A plane has landed on a beach on Kiawah Island near the Ocean Course, the site of next week’s PGA Championship.

Maj. Jim Brady of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the plane landed around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

St. Johns Fire Chief Karl Ristow told WCSC-TV the pilot was traveling from Tampa, Fla., to New York when he landed for an undetermined reason. Ristow said the pilot was stuck in some soft sand but does appear to be able to take off. Officials were checking with the Federal Aviation Administration for possible air space violations.

There was also no report on injuries.
