With farming booming, ag expo planned for Florence

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — With farming booming in South Carolina, a new agriculture event is being staged in Florence this winter.

The Morning News of Florence (http://bit.ly/MKy0bC) reports that the South Carolina AgriBiz and Farm Expo will be held at the Florence Civic Center in January.

The event is backed by the state Department of Agriculture and will bring farmers, businessmen, vendors and suppliers together for a three-day agriculture show. Agribusiness provides nearing 200,000 jobs in the state, and the show is expected to bring visitors from surrounding states.

The director of Clemson’s Pee Dee Research and Education Center says agriculture is a booming business. Bruce Fortnum says commodity prices are high and farms are probably more profitable than they have been for some time.
