Blowfish Fall In Game 1 Of Petitt Cup Championship Series

COLUMBIA, S.C. (blowfishbaseball.com) — The Columbia Blowfish fell to the Fayetteville SwampDogs Sunday night 4-2 in game one of the Petitt Cup Playoffs Championship Series. The game was the final home game at Historic Capital City Stadium in 2012. The win for the SwampDogs gives them a 1-0 series lead as the series shifts to Fayetteville for game two and of necessary game three. In Sunday night’s game the Blowfish found themselves trailing early after the SwampDogs plated two runs in the third off of Blowfish starter Derek Beasley. Beasley went six innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. In the third inning with two outs Tyler Ding doubled to left then Mike Tauchman singled him home. Reed Harper then doubled to left center to give the SwampDogs a 2-0 lead. The Blowfish would eventually answer in the sixth plating a run to cut the lead in half against SwampDogs starter Jimmie Davis. Stuart Pound doubled to right center to lead off the inning and advanced to third when J arrod Reed reached on an error by the first baseman. Pound then scored on a passed ball to score the first run of the night for the Blowfish. The SwampDogs would answer with two more runs in the seventh against Blowfish reliever Joel Seddon to take a 4-1 lead. Seddon went one inning giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one. Adam Albers then pitched a scoreless eighth for the Blowfish striking out one and Connor Sullivan pitcher a perfect ninth. The Blowfish would cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh but could get no closer. Zach Smith reached on an error and later scored on a Poun d single up the middle against SwampDogs reliever James Simmons. Simmons went one inning giving up one unearned run on two hits while striking out one. Tyler Brunnemann pitched the final two innings for the SwampDogs to get the save. Brunnemann allowed two hits and struck out one. The series now shifts to Fayetteville for game two and game three if necessary. Game two will be Tuesday night and game three would be Wednesday night.
